Although the band's name comes from the Annette Funicello song of the same name, Pineapple Princess is far from wholesome, "square," or conservative, all defining qualities of the 1950s movie and recording star. Instead, the two women who front the electric-ukulele punk band are exactly the opposite: They play loud, fast, dirty-minded songs in beer dives, cover GG Allin, and throw a ton of 'tude. Accompanied by a pet male bongo player, the ladies play "with the distortion knob on 11!" and have a whole song about how they never practice, because they don’t even care, and you paid to see it! It's called "We Suck," and it's a crowd-pleaser. OK, they're all crowd-pleasers: Besides a love of tight Hawaiian-print dresses, the only thing these two share with Funicello is adoring fans.
