If you've ever wished for a long-lost tribe, a sort of nebulous cultural group to take you in no questions asked, welcome to Brass Menazeri. Your new fictional Eastern European/caravanner identity comes complete with hi-jinky group dancing scenarios, loud sing-alongs, and an improbable dignity, just as you had hoped. Its grand, romping, Serbian-wedding type music, ancient and goofy and conjuring images of Slivovitz-swilling grandfathers in bowler hats, is exactly as fantasized about, too. The young-and-pretty crowd loves brass bands at the moment, which is irrelevant to the music but eases the Fiddler on the Roof factor. At the "Three Kinds of Stupid Job Fair and Dance Party," Brass Menazeri plays between DJs and sarcastic career-advice games to celebrate "Three Kinds of Stupid"'s 18th big dance party. DJs Brother Grimm, BAS, and Chris Baty spin "everything fun," like French go-go, Top 40, and electro-things, and the whole thing is rumored to be nonattitudinal enough for you to bring your grandma.
