Some people look at old photographs and they just see corn. Bow ties, earnest facial expressions, cat-eye glasses: You know, corn. Corny corn. But painter Phoebe Seligman isn't one of them. Instead, she sees in a young man's photo the subtle tilt of an eyebrow indicating a sensitive nature, so she embellishes her ultra-faithful pencil rendering with bright addenda; maybe mischievous parakeets. At her eponymous show, canvases hold images drawn from found photos as well as some from the painter's own life. Two women, twins, get treated to a warm background and special necklaces that play up their old-lady hairdos. A man with a wandering eye would look uninteresting without Seligman's spray of flowers next to him-- their flaming orange blooms match the man's tie, causing his emotions to jump out of his chest and manifest as stargazer lilies.
