Let's hear it for weird old art guys! Specifically, let us now praise Buz Blurr, who spells his name buZ blurr and is famous among hobos for his fabulous cryptic train graffiti. At "Two Sides to Every Boxcar," he shows some of the non-train art he does, including "artistamps," which have no postal value but often decorate envelopes anyway as part of the mail art movement. We first admired the artist in Bill Daniel's extraordinary documentary about boxcar art, Who Is Bozo Texino?, in which we were introduced to Blurr's signature graffito The Colossus of Roads, a grease-pencil self-portrait quickly done and augmented with captions the artist would probably not like us to say are Tweet-like: "Imaginary friend," or "Wait at blue." At this evening's reception, the artist discusses all of the above and more among his photographs, stencils, handmade books, and ephemera — we're hoping some of them show the Colossus.
