Treasure Island picks: in haiku form!

The Treasure Island Music Festival is one of our favorite San Francisco music events. Sure, we've been hit with a barrage of multiday concerts this summer, but this one in particular has an impeccable indie/electro lineup; festival grounds with views of the Bay straight from a movie set; a Ferris wheel; an art and zine area; and an excuse to visit a historic patch of land most of us spend 363 days ignoring otherwise. Last year's weekender proved that carpooling on the free festival buses to the island was a breeze to boot. So as the city gears up for the second annual Treasure Island blowout, we peruse the lineup in haiku form. — Eds.

Justice
Hey, Daft Punk, look out!
These electro-funk Frenchmen
are right on your ass.

TV on the Radio
Pretty soon they'll be
"Radiohead-important."
Say you saw them when ...

Goldfrapp
Trip-hop, then sleaze-pop,
now chill-out folktronica.
You chameleons, you!

Hot Chip
Nerds with sequencers
helping you get your groove on —
Kraftwerk meets Devo.

CSS
Maturing — no more
songs about Paris Hilton.
Shame, it's not as fun.

Antibalas
Brooklyn Afrobeat
that throbs and mesmerizes.
Fela Kuti lives!

Aesop Rock
Offbeat indie-rap
hardly pays the rent and bills ...
Appreciate it!

Amon Tobin
Breakbeat purveyors
rarely find grace in chaos
like this pioneer.

Foals
The higher you wear
your guitar, the more complex
your art-rock will be.

Nortec Collective: Bostich + Fussible
Norteño sway plus
techno — who needs a road trip
to Tijuana?!

Loquat
Miss the Cardigans?
This lady and backing gents
sound nearly like them.

Chester French
Harvard-spawned duo
prefers electropop to
law or medicine.

Mike Relm
This turntable wiz
often toured with Blue Man Group.
He was way cooler.

SUNDAY

The Raconteurs
No pretense, no hype.
Jack White rockin' with his buds,
it's just a band (yawn).

Tegan and Sara
Wonder twin powers,
activate! Form of: Sassy
folk-pop sisters. Rad!

Vampire Weekend
Ivy League buzz band
called "high-minded Afropop" —
sounds like ska to me.

Spiritualized
Jesus, heroin ...
the song remains the same but
it's a damn good tune.

Okkervil River
Maudlin indie-rock,
rootsy and theatrical.
Bright Eyes for grown-ups.

Tokyo Police Club
Strokes-like mod-rock, yet
smart — Julian never sings
words like "tessellate."

The Kills
Sexy, swaggering
postpunk that makes you wanna
fight or fuck or both.

Dr. Dog
Scruffy '60s pop —
sounds like the Beatles lost in
the Adirondacks.

John Vanderslice
Indie-pop genius,
melodies, lyrics — they're ace.
Plus he's super nice!

The Dodos
Rhythmic, acoustic —
this duo does psych-folk jams
sans hippie bullshit.

Fleet Foxes
Vocal harmonies
are all the rage — they're the new
Crosby, Stills and Nash.

The Morning Benders
Bands will borrow from
Beatles and Kinks forever.
Few do it so well.

Port O'Brien
Fishing-themed odd-pop,
kinda like Deadliest Catch
meets Modest Mouse. Ahoy!
