The MonkBy Traci VogelPublished on October 03, 2008 at 4:21amIt's the season for gothic enjoyment, and No Nude Men Productions satisfies the dark itch with their performance of The Monk. In a story adapted by SF Weekly writer Nirmala Nataraj from the influential 1795 horror novel by Matthew Lewis, the play follows Ambrosio, a friar who is swayed from his monastic life by a wayward nun and an imperious aristocrat. As Ambrosio tastes the fruits of temptation, he encounters ghosts, demons, and a vicious Mother Superior, but he never expects the Spanish Inquisition! No Nude Men is known for its intelligent, complex, humorous productions, and The Monk promises delights of a most devilish kind.
