Since cupcakes have become the icon of celebration here in the U.S. (just ask any third-grader), it makes sense that there would now be a bicycle race that incorporates them, right? The Tour de Cupcake is an alleycat-style race, meaning that the emphasis is on taking part, rather than winning (and there might even be a prize for last place). All levels of riders can join, and at each checkpoint cupcakes will be provided. The more cupcakes you gobble down per checkpoint, the more time bonuses you're awarded (no tossing aloud!). The very sweet event is organized by the Bike Kitchen, the co-op cycle repair shop; proceeds will help fund the shop's move to its new space in January.
