Moondoggies by Brian J. BarrSeattle's Moondoggies have been wooing crowds with their country-rock musings for more than a year now. Picked up by Hardly Art, the band just released its debut Don't Be a Stranger, which offers traces of Little Feat, Linda Ronstadt's Heart Like a Wheel, Running on Empty–era Jackson Browne, the Eagles' better moments (they had a few), Gillian Welch, and even a little Meat Puppets. The band's layered harmonies are warm and breezy, and when they swing into sweat-on-the-beercan Southern romps, it's a reminder of how much fun the '70s must have been. Don't Be a Stranger is tailor-made for road-tripping. Marijuana is also highly, highly recommended.
