Last week in an Arkansas Sam's Club, Mike Huckabee, taking a break from his new, unwatchable FOX show, signed more than 800 copies of his book in a line that stretched beyond Lawn and Garden. Gotta give it to him — the minister has a talent for extending the brand. George Bush, no surprise, does not: When he floated the very presidential idea of writing his memoirs, the nation’s publishers practically held a press conference to laugh at him. Then there’s Nancy Pelosi: Her book, Know Your Power: A Message to America’s Daughters, is currently Amazon’s 205,183 most popular book, possibly sending a weak message to America’s daughters. (For comparison’s sake, Obama’s books are still near the top, encrusted in a clot of Twilight releases. On a side note, Eat This, Not That! Thousands of Simple Food Swaps that Can Save You 10, 20, 30 Pounds! rests comfortably at number 49 -- you people are insane.) To be fair, Pelosi did release her book last July, and even if it’s not the most compelling read, the author is a local, the most powerful woman in the nation, and we should support her. Shit, 800 people went to a Sam’s Club for the Huck? Surely we can sell out the Book Talk & Signing with Nancy Pelosi.
