Low and SlowBy Hiya SwanhuyserPublished on December 23, 2008 at 4:24amA fine line separates two kinds of rock bands: Those who take themselves seriously, and those who take themselves too seriously. The former are able to produce brave music that's kinda out-there, while the latter are merely ridiculous. This line is particularly thin in the world of stoner-rock revival; it's an easily overblown arena. Los Angeles' Ancestors exist squarely in the realm of the former, and possess the mighty chops to stay there. Wailing guitar riffs, epic imagery, ominous organ on the low end, and bitchin' long hair and/or beards are all signatures of Ancestors' home, Tee Pee Records, whose roster includes demigods of the genre Earthless, Assemble Head in Sunburst Sound, and the Entrance Band.
