New York–based DJ and producer John MacLean is best known as Juan Mac-Lean — which is also the name of his band. The group has a fascination with the sounds of disco and early Italian house music, releasing two bright singles this year that would've sounded at home on dancefloors of yore. "Happy House" rides simple piano chords and singer Nancy Whang's refrain of "You are so excellent," while the synths on "The Simple Life" reference Giorgio Moroder and Donna Summer.
