More About
While you can still start an argument as to whether the Rebirth Brass Band is as big worldwide as the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, you cant question its New Orleans musical pedigree or its capability to funkify the citys century-old brass band tradition. Formed by brothers Philip and Keith Frazier in 1983 in the Tremé district the Crescent Citys musical ground zero Rebirth has kept the art form relevant to todays youth. Throughout a dozen albums, the group infuses its repertoire with pumping tuba and trombone basslines and thick funk backbeats. Rebirth Brass Band celebrates the release of 25!, its 25th anniversary album, on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 9 and 10, at the Independent. 9 p.m., $22; 866-468-3399 or visit www.theindependentsf.com.
