More About
Chinese New Year always conjures up the particularly San Franciscan memory of watching people animate fanciful paper dragons that dance through traffic and, often, through raindrops or bitter cold. This year, Divine Performing Arts offers a warm, indoor alternative with its Chinese New Year Spectacular of singing, dancing, and acrobatics that celebrate traditional Chinese culture. The show isnt solely Chinese, however. Its backed by a live orchestra combining traditional instruments of that culture with those more familiar to a Western audience, bringing a full and unique cross-cultural sound not heard elsewhere. The Chinese New Year doesnt technically begin until January 26, but the show rings in early tidings of the year of the Ox.
