It used to be called Shit Creek, and not fondly — the shit was real, thanks to the city’s questionable talent for sewage treatment in the ’70s. Nowadays, however, the houseboat residents of Mission Creek are more affected by the odious view of hulking condo projects and the dusky rubble of never-ending development. But they still have their floating homes, which is nothing short of a community miracle, and they’ll have them for years, thanks to a lease that extends to 2055. Today, get your curiosity about these live-aboards sated once and for all at the Potrero Hill Home and House Boat Tour.
