Yes He Does

It's real, starting today: The United States of America has a black president. We're sure most of the country can be considered one big inauguration party this week, but here are two events we particularly recommend. Go to both, and you won't have missed anything.

In the morning, Next Arts' annual "Sock It to Me Concert" is reformulated as a simulcast of the swearing-in ceremonies, starting at 7 a.m. at Civic Center Plaza. Admission is free, but the point of the thing is to donate new, tag-still-on socks and underwear for the less fortunate, so bring a couple of pairs; visit www.nextarts.org.

In the evening, "Inauguration West" is a glittering, glamorous dance party with live video feeds of some of the ten — ten! — parties the Obamas are scheduled to visit tonight. Morris Day and the Time — Morris Day and the Time! — plays live, and stars like Ronnie Lott, Roger Craig, and Jennifer Azzi jazz up the place.
