The Master Musicians of Jajouka are the rock stars of Morocco. They've lived for generations in a remote village in the foothills of the Rif mountains, part of a caste whose singular role in society is to make music. In this region of Arab Africa, music is both magic and medicine, and the Master Musicians are sacred healers who reputedly induce trance states in listeners. Their red-carpet fan base has included William Burroughs and the Rolling Stones. Their songs are ecstatic, beat-heavy, and snake-charmy, with a mystic Persian-African sound. Jajouka means "something good will come to you."
