When people see Kellita Maloof of Hot Pink Feathers, they're usually pretty happy to follow her. Does that sound crass? Let's just say the leader of the popular samba/showgirl dance troupe gets smiles coming and going, so it's joyous to hear that Hot Pink Feathers is leading the year's biggest conga line. At the kickoff event of Bay Area National Dance Week today, the Feathers join four other stellar dance troupes in Union Square at noon, and everyone's invited. During the week, 350 dance-related events are free, free, free: Learn Alexander technique, fire twirling, clogging, Middle Eastern belly dance, ballet, and folkloric styles from many traditions — and watch just as many.
