The Devil Makes Three by Sam PrestianniThe Devil Makes Three draws on rural blues, folk, and bluegrass in equal measures with rock 'n' roll. While many of the Santa Cruz trio's songs display a punk attitude and play up the virtues of gambling, drinking, and carousing, its take on excess isn't exactly over the top. Back-porch vocals, acoustic guitars, upright bass, and a touch of fiddle and banjo make for a down-home sound that's infectious for its lack of pretense. And yet on the band's new album, Do Wrong Right, there's plenty of preacher-speak on performing your dirty deeds with distinction.
