Today's the last chance to see Sita Sings the Blues -- in a theater, anyway. You can watch Nina Paley's breathlessly reviewed animated mythology mashup anytime you want, since it's uncopyrighted with a Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike License. The writer/director/animator wanted it this way -- free to everyone, more or less -- because it jibes better with her impression that culture belongs to everyone already anyway. Paley has a strong Central Coast connection, aka has long been an anarchistic hippie type: We lived in Santa Cruz when she was a beloved local cartoonist. One of our favorite items of hers showed a dragon talking to a severely injured woman. To paraphrase the dragon: "I'm sorry I bit your arm off. I can't help it! I'm a dragon." It was a metaphor. As is Sita.
