Two-Pronged Attack

The following takes place between May 14 to May 16: Janeane Garofalo and Mary Lynn Rajskub, both actors on the hit show 24, both not very funny on the hit show 24, are both telling jokes this weekend on the same three nights, at the same five times, on totally opposite stages, in unrelated but suspicious appearances. Conspiracy? Fine. Garofalo, comfortable with grabbing the audience by the throat and forcing it to laugh like a little bitch, is the favorite. But don’t be surprised when Rajskub, aka Chloe O’Brian, penetrates your high-security firewall of bitterness, patches into to your central nervous system, ports over to your sense of humor, and hacks laughs until you are pwned. Actually, Rajskub, originally a stage comic and an alum of Mr. Show and The Larry Sanders Show, delivers meandering jokes more scatterbrained and spacey than geeky and Asperger's, and she loves poking fun at the right-wing Chloe fans who think the TV is real.

Blaine Capatch and Matt Morales open for Mary Lynn Rajskub at 8 and 10 p.m. at the Punch Line, 444 Battery (at Clay), S.F. Admission is $22.50; call 397-4337 or visit www.punchlinecomedyclub.com.

Marc Maron and Paul Gilmartin open for Janeane Garofalo at 8 and 10:15 p.m. at Cobb's Comedy Club, 915 Columbus (at Mason), S.F. Admission is $27.50-$32.50; call 928-4320 or visit www.cobbscomedyclub.com.
