Pieces are moving on the chessboard — outdoor street festivals are in danger. Escalating fees, grumpy neighbors, ever-increasing rolls of red tape, and a general sense that S.F. should be more like Davis are threatening to quash our equitable desire to listen to music, dance, eat, and drink in transportation lanes. What can you do? First, call your mother — today is Mother’s Day, and you should call your mother. Then, attend the How Weird Street Faire, whose 10th year features 10 blocks of electronic music stages, performances, vendors, and bars, all centered on the theme of peace. Then, at night, it all moves inside to the surrounding clubs. Put on a costume, call your mother, and come out to support what’s left of anything-goes S.F.
