Booker T.By Dave PehlingPublished on May 05, 2009 at 11:08amAs leader of the MGs and one of the principal architects of the Stax sound, songwriter and organ maestro Booker T. Jones put an indelible stamp on popular music during the '60s. His first solo effort in two decades, Potato Hole, is anchored by his knack for tasty grooves and his sanctified Hammond B-3. But the album also shows a push into new territory, with unexpected guitar heft provided by backing band the Drive-By Truckers and special guest Neil Young. The Truckers won't be on hand when Jones shares the stage with fellow Anti artist Bettye LaVette, but that shouldn't discourage fans from getting a double dose of super dynamite soul when the two talents hit the Independent on Friday, May 8.
