The S.F.–based Surefire crew continues to showcase international dubstep innovators this week, hosting Bristol, U.K. producer and DJ Laurie Osbourne, aka Appleblim. Osborne's Skull Disco label (which he runs with partner Sam Shackleton) has forged a sound that breaks through dubstep's sometimes plodding formula. They integrate African and Mideast syncopation into the mix, along with elements of minimalist, dubby techno. Sharing the wheels with Appleblim is Swedish production and DJ duo Claes Rosén and Ola Näslund, who go by L-Wiz and whose repertoire includes the jazzy "Girl from Codeine City" and the menacing bass monster "Mexter Dorgan."
