MogwaiBy Brian MossPublished on May 11, 2009 at 4:52pmDespite stylistic differences, Glasgow's Mogwai and Los Angeles' Dead Meadow both make music that lends itself to mind-altering substances. Since 1996, Mogwai has been crafting epic instrumental soundscapes with songs that stretch well beyond five minutes. The band stacks atmospheric layers, its slow mood swings riding on eerie effects and crescendos that rise to deafening volumes. Live, the music is an all-sensory experience. Opening act Dead Meadow is sure to bring a foggy cauldron of blistering, '70s-inspired riffs and analog psychedelia. The trio's ultratight, ultraloud jams are absolutely infectious.
