Did you know that the guy who directed The Warriors also directed 48 Hrs., Another 48 Hrs., Trespass (with Ices Cube and T), Crossroads (the Karate Kid!) and a zillon other films? In other words, a regular, constantly working director of middling-to-good cinema. What the fuck was he doing with The Warriors, then? Answer: He got lucky. Somewhere along the line, dear Walter Hill looked at his fairly conventional gang script and thought, gangs wear distinctive clothes, right? Like in West Side Story? Let's put them in baseball uniforms. And on roller skates. Shave these guys' heads, and put these guys in ratty clothes. There. Now they look like gangs. The rest is history.
