River Deep, Spectator HighBy Hiya SwanhuyserPublished on June 23, 2009 at 4:20amUrsula Schneider's paintings aren't what they seem. They look like abstract paintings, beautiful, gossamer things with patterns and rhythm and colors we like. Bands of color are big with her at "The River," which sounds like a good name for an exhibit of abstract paintings. But it turns out that her paintings are really faithful pictures of the Hudson River. Red sky reflects on silver ice, colored lights bleed into black water, or green and blue reach deep into each other. In addition to being easy on the eyes, it's a little bit of a head trip; without the mind game it would be nice, but as it stands, it's a lot better than nice.
