Thank you, Godfather

Anyone else out there obsessed with Grey Gardens? Just kidding! We know a lot of you are. At "The Godfather of Documentary Cinema," one of GG's two daddies holds forth on his mindblowing career, which of course has encompassed making films about the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Marlon Brando, and other figures of towering importance. Somehow, though, even with all that, we can't get it out of our minds that the extras on the Criterion Collection DVD edition of Grey Gardens kind of makes it sound like Big Edie and Little Edie (Bouvier, the aunt and cousin of Jacquelyn Onassis, the subjects of GG) didn't ever get paid what they were promised by the Maysles brothers. Could it be true? The women are both dead now, so it's a moot point. Isn't it?
