The puns fly fast and hard at the S.F. Drag King Competition, aka the Oscars of the male impersonation world. The names alone take some cakes: “Papa” Don Preach (the 2008 winner), Arty Fishal, Jack Dup. Performing groups sometimes pun, including classic rock band WOOD, which consists of members Holden, Stain’d, Major, and Dog as well as Tim Burr. The judging panel is always its own entertainment at the Drag King Contest, and this year features Animal Prufrock (of Bitch and Animal), Bay Area superstar dancer Simone de la Getto, former SFDK winner Jay Walker, and it-girl queen Anna Conda. Noncompetitive entertainment includes the Russ Meyer film come to life that is Thee Merry Widows, and we’re back to the puns with Ham Gramm and the Wham Bam Thank You Ma’ams.
