Moontel Six, Part 1 has much to recommend it: The play was written for teens by Constance Congdon, the talent behind many intergalactic scripts as well as her adaptations of adult A.C.T. works like Molière's The Misanthrope (2001) and The Imaginary Invalid (2007). It also scored a performance at London's National Theatre, and features the budding young stars of A.C.T.'s Junior Young Company, all of whom are Bay Area teens and younger. But enough with the résumé. Moontel Six, Part 1 really gets our attention because it takes place in the future, on the Moon, in an abandoned hotel squatted by genetically altered teenagers who were cast out of the home planet by dumb adults. Your reach is long, John Hughes! And the dumb adults don't even leave 'em alone up there, thanks to the proximity of Moonstead Estates and all the squares therein, and the young mutants struggle achingly to find a home of their own.
