Last heard tackling ice cream and scrapbooking in song, Pissed Jeans singer Matt Korvette has moved on to lip rings, R-rated movies, and sleeplessness on the new King of Jeans. The Sub Pop–signed Pennsylvania quartet has welcomed Pearls and Brass guitarist Randy Huth on bass, but not much else has changed. Pissed Jeans persist in writing gnashing, bluesy anthems around Korvette's mundane and often deadpan-funny lyrics, which seem out of place against such a heavy backdrop. When a song resorts to sluggish pacing, the effect is all the more unsettling.
