"Ours"

Alex Schweder's installation show is built for two, so take a friend along when you visit. Schweder, an architect, explores social relationships through his conceptual pieces, all of which give off a "why didn't I think of that?" vibe. Indeed, who hasn't thought of scratch-and-sniff wallpaper? He made it a reality, using scented varnishes reminiscent of Froot Loops applied to a discreet striped pattern. Our Weight Around Us is an inflated couch full of just enough air to support two people at once. If one person gets up, the other sinks to the floor. In front of the couch, a mysterious and yucky video of what appears to be endoscopic footage plays on a television. The flashiest piece on display, however, is Plumbing Us, conjoined male and female urinals that face one another, separated by a wall. The female version features an extended porcelain arm designed to catch the urine and carry it to the drain, where it mingles with the men's pee. At last, equal access to splash.
