This Labor Day, more than 220 Eat-In potlucks take place nationwide to support Slow Food USA’s Time for Lunch Campaign, which hopes to put better food in the mouths of our country’s schoolkids. Given that, of late, our city’s zeitgeist is totally obsessed with what we we’re eating and why, it could be awkward if, say, folks in Arizona threw a better spread than us. So, all you chefs, chef de cuisines, sous chefs, and chefs de garde-manger: Make something. Line cooks: Make something better. Home cooks: Kill ‘em all. People who ate in front of the fridge last night: Do your best (and we’ve got your back). Even if you arrive with a whole lot of nothing (which, we fear, may be a trend), you can still get a plate of someone else’s food while supporting children not having to eat Hot Pockets for lunch until they go to college and demand to. Local Eat-Ins take place in Potrero Hill and Dolores Park (www.slowfoodusa.org), but the one to beat is sponsored by Slow Food San Francisco.
