We love to blaspheme, so we'll just spit it out: David Hevel is the visual artist John Waters wishes he were. We've seen Waters' gallery shows, and they're good, but Hevel is brilliant. Taking aesthetic cues from Waters, natch, but also Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Martha Stewart, and society flower-arranger Stanlee Gatti, Hevel is the king of glammed-up taxidermy. Glamidermy? Whatever -- his brilliant portrait of Angelina Jolie is made of a bedazzled pumpkin, a fake monkey, and enough bric-a-brac to choke a teabagger. At "Beautiful, Dirty, Dirty, Rich," Hevel continues his usual celebrity snarking, casting Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett as pretty little trophy-mounted unicorn heads, just for a start. If you love simultaneous wincing, laughing, and wishing to purchase art as much as we do, you'll love it.
