More About

The annual Folsom Street Fair is always a lively spectacle, with fetish-wear-flaunting and freak-flag-flying the order of the day. Even the most jaded of voyeurs can’t help but feel for the skin damage suffered by pale fetishists leaving their dungeons for the first time in months to parade beneath the punishing sun. To ease the transition from everyday life to leathery decadence, queer nightlife impresario Joshua J. is throwing a special edition of his Big Top party, a pre-Folsom bash daintily dubbed the Leather & Lace Ball. Big Top began as a fledgling nightclub on Church Street a couple of years ago and has since grown in popularity and infamy, taking over a more spacious venue with two stories, three bars, and a private lounge (for exhibitionists needing a moment of privacy, perhaps). All the trappings of a society in decline will be on hand: writhing go-go dancers and their godless bulges, a degenerate drag show — with a performance by inveterate queen Mercedez Munro — and a wet jockstrap contest hosted by Oxana Olsen. Two dancefloors (legendary DJ and producer David Harness dropping beats downstairs and Chelsea Starr spinning hip-hop and pop upstairs) provide plenty of space for the gradual collapse of civilization promised by such a fun-filled circus of homosexual depravity.
