San Francisco wants Market Street to cool it. First, the city forced eastbound cars to abandon all hope and turn right, making adjacent Mission Street the highway to hell. The main artery was more peaceful, to be sure. Lest you forget you should be soaking in the newly legislated peace, a nearby kiosk is ready with a reminder: the exhibit “Taking In” by Pamela Wilson-Ryckman, as part of the Art on Market Street Kiosk Poster Series. Exploring “the various means by which people find respite or refuge within the urban landscape,” according to the press release, Wilson-Ryckman took archival images of people enjoying serene, untroubled moments in local parks and reinterpreted them in bold, colorful, and slightly abstract watercolors. Enjoy the quiet: The next round of kiosk-art on Jan. 4 is Jonathan Burstein's collages of crap he collected on the street.
