Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Family Tree

Now in its ninth year, the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass festival is a beloved San Francisco tradition: a free open-air celebration of American roots music in the broadest sense of the term. We're talking folk, blues, country, gospel, honky-tonk, rockabilly, rock 'n' roll, and the Kentuckiest bluegrass this side of the Mississippi. With roughly 100 players from several generations performing on five stages over three days, the gig is expected to draw more than a half-million concertgoers of all ages. In an effort to help fans sort out their party plans, we've designed a family tree to highlight the stylistic breadth of this singular event while teasing out the threads that sew this motley American patchwork together.
