Moby has to be one of the world's richest DJs — all those years licensing Play to every audio and visual outlet possible literally paid off. So when he hits the road now, he can choose to make his money count — by, for example, donating big chunks of it to needy non-profits. When the bald producer heard California's domestic violence shelters were on the brink of closure thanks to state budget woes, he decided to hand over all the revenue from his California shows to the California Partnership to End Domestic Violence. "My hope is that by doing this I will enable domestic violence prevention workers to continue their work," Moby said, "and also encourage other people to step in and help raise funds for domestic violence prevention and care." That benevolent attitude affects his gigs in San Diego, Los Angeles, and tonight’s San Francisco show at the Warfield Theatre. While plenty of artists donate their time, and portions of their proceeds, to important causes, Moby's move is one of those above-and-beyond deals of generosity. — Jennifer Maerz
