Everybody’s favorite historic gay movie house pumps up the local laugh quotient this month, unveiling a new monthly series of live comedy programming, complete with rib-tickling comics, guileless Bay Area gender illusionists, and consistently distressing reality television personalities. “Comedy in the Castro” premieres tonight with a positively gladdening line-up: Loni Love, a regular guest on wisecracking television shows like the mean-spirited late-night roundtable Chelsea Lately and commentator for VH1’s tender backward glance, I Love the '70s; Nene Leakes, larger-than-life reality facet of The Real Housewives of Atlanta, whose involvement in nuanced dramas at home and between other desperate housewives have thrust her into the American public’s gentle spotlight; and Sasha Soprano — local drag diva and producer of the event — who interviews Leakes about her new book, Never Make the Same Mistake Twice. As if all of that isn’t queeny enough, the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence (including 20-year veteran Sister Roma), Mercedez Munro, and Willis Turner will be on hand to fan the flames with jibes of their own. It’s a laugh riot fit for quipping queens, neighborhood nellies, and entertainment television acolytes alike.
