La Crème de la Disco Dancing

More About

As another enduring San Francisco warm season filled with gay-ish festivals draws to a close, party people hang up their threadbare technicolor tanktops, their adventurous jean cut-offs, and their sultry summer jams in favor of more subdued autumnal affairs. One such to-do is Bring Your Own Queer, a one-day fête featuring lovely local music makers and stage performers of the mincing indie persuasion. Carousing on the concourse unfolds to the beloved dance-inducing disco of queer DJ collective Honey Soundsystem, along with house music varietals by Rainbow Death Pony and DJ Black. Along with all of this bim-bom and booty-shaking is a fancy spread of live acts, including Excuses for Skipping, praised for brooding, pensive indie-rock; the Cartographers, dishing up glitchy pop electronica; and fun-loving queercore Lucky Jesus. From this alone you could faint from delight, but the revelry gets even more ripsnorting with ensemble burlesque from Diamond Daggers and an appearance by piñata-fisting provocateur and performance phenom La Chica Boom. Five hours knee-deep in an artsy showcase and dance party with independent-minded local tomcats and faygeles? Only in America!
