Paint Another Orgasm, DudeBy Michael LeavertonPublished on October 15, 2009 at 4:20amContext is nothing. At least, thats the idea behind Snippets, local artist Lori Gordons ongoing exhibit. She takes phrases that have a bite-size meaning to her shes overheard them, essentially prints them on white posters, and has people display them in their windows or hold them up to be photographed. Viewers are left to derive their own meaning, and with potent statements like Im not ready for boring, I was disappointed in humanity way before they keyed my car, and Peter Gabriel is teaching primates how to sing, its not difficult. Her exhibit of the same name features take-away, ready-to-hang fliers and big wall works. The curator, Bruno Mauro, nails down the artist perfectly: Gordon does not assemble the art as much as she captures it from all of us. For the opening reception, she is joined by Portland artist Jen Delos Reyes, who presents Simon and Garfunkel fans singing Bridge Over Troubled Water as the See How They Shine choir. Odd, yes, but think of it in the context of wait, this is better without context. An opening reception for Snippets starts at 6 p.m. Oct. 23.
