Warm and Soft

Are white vinyl walls with embedded speakers friendlier than plain white walls? Or are they merely more 2001: A Space Odyssey? Jacqueline Gordon's space-age soft sculpture has a nose of political criticism (Why do utopias always go horribly awry, she seems to ask, for example.) "Our Best Machines Are Made of Sunshine" recalls pre- and post-hippie idealist aesthetics, and is meant to play with your emotions. Some of the work invites, such as a cozy Barbarella nookie nook, while some, like the enigmatic walls, may constern or even alarm the viewer. Math, sonic patterning, and folk art are strong inspirations. In addition, the exhibit features a music performance on Thursdays with local bands including Sutekh, Joshua Churchill, Virobot, Gregg Kowalsky, Luuse & Fun Santa Maria, Wobbly, and Nate Boyce and Greg Zifcak.
