We Wish We Went to Prom with You
Ballroom dancing is gay. California Dreaming Dance Sport Festival is here to make it even better, even gayer, as the biggest same-sex ballroom dancing competition in San Francisco history. It's hard to describe how good, how right, how correct it is to see two immaculate pairs of tuxedo tails fluttering around under chandeliers, or how joyous are the faces of two pretty partners in beaded gowns. (See picture, get hanky.) Possibly even better are the butch/femme competitors; it's all very visually satisfying. In addition, many of the more than 400 registered dancers are also Gay Games dancethletes, and guess what? These dancers bring razor-sharp lines, split-second muscle control, and genuine heat to their performances; since the Utah-based National Dance Council of America doesn't accept same-sex couples, there's a good chance that some of the very best ballroom dancing in the world, bar none, is right here.
