The literary showcase and open mike LUNADA takes a new tack this month, with three writer-performers presenting short theater pieces. As the former program director for Bay Area darling Youth Speaks, Paul Flores has produced the work of local youth. He has also toured extensively with his own projects, including the hip-hop theater piece Representa!, directed by Danny Hoch. His first novel, Along the Border Lies, earned him the PEN Oakland-Josephine Miles National Literary Award in 2003. This evening, he performs You’re Gonna Cry, a multiperspective look at violence and gentrification in the Mission District. How will one man speak for a yuppie, a gangster, and a little girl with the same breath? Flore appears with xago, who presents a piece about branding, Juárez Going On?, and Sarita Ocón, who tackles Latina images in culture with Compromise.
Tue., Dec. 1, 7:30 p.m.; Thu., Dec. 31, 7:30 p.m., 2009
