Sacrilegious Satire Comes to Town

It wouldn’t be Christmas 2009 in the deeply immoral Bay Area without some unholy drag spectacle rolling into town to satirize the Holy Trinity and the birth of Jesus et al. in a high flight of pop cultural and religious juxtapositions. The fourth installment of drag queen Mimi Imfurst’s “Virgin Mary” series, Madonna’s Christmas Celebration shines a light into the psyche of the legendary teen mother, exploring the peculiar situation in which she found herself as the 13-year-old bride of God. It’s full of jabs at the church, classic drag waggery (wiggery, too), and bons mots from the V.M. (“Is this going to be a normal birth? I mean, God forbid, we’ve all seen Alien and Rosemary’s Baby,” she says, noting that she was the first person in history to use the words “Oh my God!” in the bedroom.) The show uses original music and parodies of holiday songs and Top 40 hits for a ribald retelling of the conception, birth, and life of you-know-who. Expect to see hysterical interpretations of pop gems by Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, and — of course — Madonna decorating this lovingly perverted version of the Christmas story, a buoyant, blasphemous balm to the deadening effects of another goddamned December à la late capitalism.
Tue., Dec. 8, 8 p.m.; Wed., Dec. 9, 8 p.m., 2009
