No time like the holiday-worn present for a wee spot of catharsis. While the usual wintertime opportunities for relaxation still apply, laughter is the next best medicine, if you have no access to Wellbutrin, Effexor, or Tofranil. Thank local comic Ali Wong (beloved for using a dour rendition of “The Hokey Pokey” to describe the monotony of sex in long-term relationships, among other things) for “What’s Crackin’ SF?” a one-night round of stand-up featuring not only herself but also a slew of other funny Bay Areans. Kevin Camia, for example, who says bitterly, “It’s a very magical vehicle, the Prius. It runs on half gas, half rainbows,” before adding that when a Prius crashes into another Prius, a panda has a miscarriage. Then there’s Janine Brito on preferring cats to the idea of having kids: “I don’t have to pay a hundred grand for my cat to binge-drink for four years with nothing to show for it but chlamydia and a dolphin tattoo.” Chris Sifflet, for his part, crowd-pleases with bits like his reading of an e-mail exchange between himself and an allegedly Liberian female spambot. Donny Divanian, Kelly Pryce, and other surprise guests make their own contributions to the laughter and the mayhem.
