Classic Comedy: Love It

He’s a slashie, but he’s no model/actor: He’s Jon Lovitz, actor/comedian/singer, a man of cultivated talents. We have fond memories of his performance as Michael Dukakis against Dana Carvey’s George Bush in Saturday Night Live’s debate spoofs leading up to the 1988 election, though he is probably best known for his turn as “Tommy Flanagan, Pathological Liar.” Old Tommy would wrestle as he put a lie together, then utter his signature phrase, “Yeah, yeah! That’s the ticket!” The power-joshers of the world and probably your parents repeated the phrase ad nauseam, beating it into the pop-culture fabric of our nation like a housekeeper attacking a rug. Lovitz has continued to be a funny guy, spreading his talented wings across Hollywood and even Broadway — he has sung at Carnegie Hall three times. If you want a taste of some classic American comedy from a man who has earned his place in the spotlight, Jon Lovitz is the ticket.
