DJ Bobina

In DJ and producer Bobina (Dmitry Almazov), Russia finally has a major player on the international progressive house and trance scene, which has long been dominated by European jocks. Bobina has been influenced and supported by such artists as Paul Oakenfold, Ferry Corsten, and Armin van Buuren; he records for van Buuren's Armada label. His original tracks "Honestly" and "Invisible Touch" favor staccato beats and soaring buildups that move into the upper registers of trance melody.

The San Francisco Street Food Festival was another success this year. Dozens of vendors with original, unheard-of creations, such as deep fried mac and cheese on a stick, black pea paste pancakes, and Korean quesadillas. Then there was the comfort foods we've grown accustomed to, like creme bruleé, shrimp rolls, and pound cake. Photographs by Mabel Jimenez.
