More About
At "Santos y Otros Creatures," the art is made by adults with developmental disabilities. The art is indistinguishable from and in many cases plain superior to that made by artists with regulation development, as it has been for many years at this particular gallery. Credit has to be given to the curators, in this case the spectacularly talented Victor Cartagena. We wonder if Cartagena mentored us in printmaking, mightn't our art be as good as, say, Quintin Rodriquez'? Maybe? The show features religious icons and mythical animals from established religions and old traditions, as well as those invented by the artists. We especially love Gerald Wiggins' cat saint, as well as his version of a griffin or chimera: a liony guy with a majestic dorsal fin and amphibious-looking lung-gills.
