President Barack Obama was supposed to be the Man with a Plan, not a kinder, gentler version of the Man. As the clamor grows for a jobs bill, another black hero — with far funkier threads — has emerged from the shadows (of the '70s) to fight the power. Michael Jai White is Black Dynamite, ultrasmooth sex machine, martial arts master, and self-appointed defender of the 'hood. An affectionate and very funny shout-out to the heyday of blaxploitation films and pimp-driven fashion, Black Dynamite delivers the goods even for moviegoers whose only encounter with the genre is hearing Isaac Hayes’ “Theme from Shaft” on an oldies station. When his brother is murdered, Black Dynamite turns the town upside down, following the trail of corruption wherever it leads. With help from the likes of Cream Corn, Mo Bitches, and Afroditey, the righteous BD unravels a plot that both mocks and embraces the notorious urban legend that the CIA poured crack into the inner cities in the ’80s — but who says it’s a myth?
