AMA Supercross: We don’t follow it. All we know are the barest of essentials — that it is like a motorcycle race in a phone booth, that there is thunder thunder thunder, and that you, like Walt Whitman, will witness the great breadth of humanity in the parking lot, since it is the only AMA stop in Northern California. (Welcome, people of Antioch!) We do know, however, that in the past 10 years the yearly title has been batted back and forth among just four people: Jeremy McGrath, Ricky Carmichael, Chad Reed, and James Stewart Jr. This year, expect it to go to either Stewart or Reed (the others are retired, possibly), though in January this new kid, Ryan Dungey — let’s call him “the rookie” — beat both of them to win in Phoenix. Dungey is also currently on top of the points race, looks like Zack from Saved by the Bell, pisses oil, and eats screws.
